As a family we decided it'd be fun to hit a few last fall and managed to fit 3 into our busy schedule. The kids were immediately hooked. They got to race their bikes on flat, fun courses with obstacles and lots of new friends. Josh and I were hooked as well. We upgraded our bikes this year and between lacrosse and soccer, we make it to races where we, as a family enjoy the great outdoors with other competitive families.
You don't have to even own a cyclocross bike to compete. They actually rent them there and some people use their Mt bike (which can have advantages on some courses). With several catagories to choose from everyone competes with similar riders and the kids race a short course for very cheap. You'll sprint for up to 50 exhausting minutes including dismounting and running over barriers and logs. Courses offer plenty of sand, mud, and gravel to keep things interesting.
